Date & Time: Available for use during normal Explorium hours

Ages: 5+ with parent/guardian

Cost: NOW FREE! (You must leave your valid ID during the time of use)

  • Must be 18 or older to rent a pack.
  • Must provide a valid ID to be held during time of rental.
  • Packs are designed for individual use or a small group of up to 4 people.
Pack Options:
  1. Backyard Naturalist – This pack is supplied with equipment to help families explore the natural world. You can catch insects, watch birds, identify plants and sketch them in a book. There are guides to use as a resource to help you through each activity. This pack is ideal for families with younger members.
  2. Young Naturalist – This pack is similar to the backyard naturalist but offers more in-depth guides for an older audience or a more advanced naturalist. Families can watch birds and other animals; collect samples such as plants or insects to observe before releasing back into their habitat.
  3. Rock Hound – This pack is supplied with tools to help families explore the world beneath their feet. Your family can become a geologist for a day and use techniques to identify rocks and minerals. Using the rock samples and equipment will help you to discover the colors and crystals right here in the park!
Tips for Using the Packs:
  • Remember to pick up and discard any trash into appropriate bins.
  • Release any living creatures (such as insects) back into their natural habitat unharmed after making observations.
  • If you aren’t sure what it is, leave it alone. Some plants and insects may be harmful (Example: Poison Ivy).
  • Check the list. Make sure all supplies are in the pack before turning back in.
  • Have FUN!
